A perfect long weekend…

… can be spent in Ljubljana and its surroundings. There is much to see and do – my friend and I wanted to also explore Bled and Trieste during our 5 day-holiday.

We chose to mix different accommodation types which was very comfortable – Airbnb in Ljubljana, Couchsurfing in Trieste and hotel in Bled.

Our host Eric in Ljubljana was very welcoming and helpful, his apartment is in a former art hall and there are still some paintings left, which makes the accommodation very special.

On top, the apartment is situated in the centre, only a few minutes walking from the famous Prešeren Square and the Three Bridges.

For a good breakfast, we fell in love with Le Petit Café where we could have warm soy milk with granola. The food was tasty and the atmosphere very cosy.

My personal highlight in Ljubljana was the touching free walking tour through the heart of the city that not only provided us with information about the buildings, but also with a summary of the country’s recent history.

For spectacular views, you can walk up to the city’s castle or have a coffee at the city’s only skyscraper Neboticnik. You’ll see a typical Eastern-Europe city landscape with concrete tower blocks in front of snow-capped mountains.

In Ljubljana, there is a special vibe which you can experience for example at Daktari, a small bar with open mic evenings.
